Custom-built Marshall style guitar amplifiers

Hand-wired, light-weight, budget JCM800, Jubilee and JTM45 clones

1, 4, 10, 18, 50 and 100 watt formats

My name is Rick Roy. I am a retired mechanical engineer and a 50+ year guitar player who is a fan of old skool Marshall amps. I have owned many over the years and in 2009 decided to build my own.

My first build was a Metropolis Amplification JTM45 clone from a kit and it came out great. I then built their 50 and 100 watt 60's era Plexi's that again came out terrific.

Since then I partnered with a fellow musician and amp tinkerer and have built 1w, 4w, 10w, 18w, 50w and 100w versions of my favorite designs, including the JCM800 and Jubilee amps. The sound is "all Marshall" to my delight and the lower watt versions weigh far less than the 50 and 100 watt originals. I gig with these regularly and have received many compliments on my sound.

I also teach guitar using incentive based learning. I am self taught and used the play-by-ear method in my case and have been playing for over 50 years. You will not be learning how to play Mary had a little Lamb (unless you want to!), I ask the student what they want to learn to play then tailor the lessons to achieve the end goal. The basics come first of course; learning the guitar parts and pieces, tuning the guitar, fret board introduction, strumming and picking techniques, timing, etc. Then we start with basic open chords, then to bar chords, then to lead guitar soloing. Lessons learned at the student's pace, no pressure. Lessons given here at my home in Pelham, NH in my studio. I am retired so am very flexible with the student's schedule.

In addition I do guitar setups and Marshall style amp repair.

RMR-2204-6V6 Shortbox Head in Tolex

shortbox tolexed with optional LED logo shown

This is an 18 watt version of the Marshall© JCM 800 amplifier based on the 1983 circuit, a very popular amp from the 80’s. The power section features a pair of 6V6 power tubes instead of the normal EL34 compliment resulting in a much lighter amp. This amp is also available with switchable "dual channel” gain, not on the originals, to kick in your lead tone. This is essentially a lead boost with a fixed amount of added gain to make your notes sing, with separate independent volume control to balance your rhythm and lead volumes. I prefer power amp overdrive over pedals myself and this is achievable using lower power output tubes. An added bonus is that the amplifier weighs substantially less due to much smaller transformers versus 50 and 100 watt heads weighing upwards of 50 lbs. Hand wired to give classic Marshall tone. Also available in a natural birch cabinet, classic size box (see below), and 1x12 natural and tolexed formats.

This is an 18 watt version of the Marshall© Jubilee amplifier that debuted in 1987 and has been reissued. Slash, Joe Bonnamasa and others are among many Jubilee users. The power section features a pair of 6V6 power tubes instead of the normal EL34 compliment resulting in a much lighter amp. This amp also has a separate lead gain control not found on the originals to dial in your lead tone. Also available in a natural birch cabinet, classic size and 1x12 natural and tolexed formats.

The power section features a user-swappable single 6V6 for 4 watts and a single 6L6 or EL34 for about 10 watts. Pair this amp with our Extension Cab or your favorite 1x or 2x speaker cabinet. RMR-MICRO-1

This is a 1 watt version of the Marshall© JCM800 amplifier perfect for apartment or bedroom use.  The design is based on the Rob Robinette JCM Micro amp that impressed me enough to offer it in a "Marshall" style format. I like to call it a "parlor Marshall" or "wife friendly Marshall"  for you married dudes. The power section features a single 12AU7 or 12AT7.  Either will yield good tone at conversation level volume. Pair this amp with your favorite 1x or 2x speaker cabinet. Hand wired to give classic Marshall tone. Also available in natural cab and 1x10 combo.

1 x 12 Combo Cab with Jubilee styled amplifier shown

This is an 18 watt combo version with either the Marshall© Jubilee-style amp or a JCM800-style amp, and featuring a closed back design for added bass thump. This design also features an easy jack access rear panel, mounted on the rear panel. Pair this amp with our matching 1x12 bluesbreaker-style matching Extension Cab for an even fuller sound at gigs.

1x12 Extension Speaker Cabinet

1 x 12 Extension Speaker Cab

Pair our Extension Speaker Cab with any of our amp heads or combo units. Closed-back design gives more mid-bass than open-back cabs and makes your palm-muted chug style really stand out. Cab includes the WG Veteran 30 12" speaker which is modeled after the popular Celestion/Marshall Vintage 30 and sounds great in this closed cabinet.
